Note*...grinding prohibited in LWPS

I started welding this header with the four 2" olets. Pic in top centre shows a fit & tacked up starting point usually I use 3/16" gap opening.  Out comes TIG TORCH, parameters should have been pre set in early stages of job.  WPS on jobs should always be followed. If job has no written procedures, you should already know the approximate amps from initial job analysis. E.g pipe diameter, sch.>Thickness,  process and attachments, all analyzed and resolved the issue. TIG root all four olets switch over to stick SMAW I used 7018 3/32 rod to fill them out and shaping them for the cap. Absolutely no grinding was done to header except for bevelling pipe ends preparing the fitt up of butt weld.  Oulets are beveled so TIG root application melts materials together without internal discrepancies. When at the final stage. Take a moment and strategize weld placement and look over your work, plan it.
Now you should know the amount of rods to finish also welding sequence, parameters adjustments. Ready go!  I refuse to grind anything especially pipe welding. IF LWPS is applied each weld pass is perfectly placed in its planned sequence, grinding is either a crutch lack of confidence.  Or amateur inexperienced required tool. An experienced tradesmen shouldn't need a crutch.  LWPS IS EVOLVED WELDING PERFORMANCE. USING MIND AND BODY ACHIEVING  HIGH EFFICIENT WELDING , keeping Above average Quality in Visuals. Look at all five photos check for any grinding marks. Grinding took place briefly in preparing header drilling, oxy ace torch. Once welding begins. Grinders have been removed. 2.5 hrs to complete all four welds.
Rod consumption down. Cost of disks saved and time is under half estimated hrs.  LWPS is not for Welders who make excuse and blame others or machines for there lack of skill. Definitely keep that grinder handy. Those Welders who never stop trying to improve striving for excellence will shine like a diamonds
When working in large numbers.
